I think it sounds fine, not over the line. I posted something similar last night after one friend was very offensive in her views.

"I'm so tired of getting beat over the head with the bible over the past few days. I'm also tired of being judged and talked down to b/c others view me as "not Christian enough" or "not a true Christian" b/c I am not a bible literal Christian. My faith is between me and God, not me and everyone else and God.

I couldn't care less if someone is white, brown, black, purple, polka dotted...or straig
ht, bi, gay, lesbian, WHATEVER. I will love you no matter what, I will respect your choices, and you will receive no judgement from me. I just ask the **same** in return.

If ANYONE has a problem with this, just let me know and I would be happy to remove you from my friends list...or if you would rather keep it quiet just go ahead and remove me. No questions asked. Thanks! "

I am a Christian, but I don't take the bible literally and I believe in equal marriage rights b/c I don't think that my religion should dictate the laws of our nation. My husband, on the other hand, does not believe in it, and he is entitled to his opinion as is everyone. Just don't tell me I'm not Christian enough, or not a true Christian b/c of it. KWIM?

Word to your mother [on the bolded!!!] And my husband has the same views as yours does and I'm pro-marriage equality. It works because we both are respectful about it.

I don't think so. I think generalizations of any kind are hurtful, presumptuous and rude. I would be prepared for a debate on that status, though. If you have any gung ho friends, that is. I've yet to see even a generally accepting status to not call forward friends debating others. Also rude IMO, but I digress. I don't find what you said to be out of line.

oops, good point. I was trying to avoid using "orientation" twice because it sounded redundant luckily no one picked up on that on my page! Or at least no one said they were bothered by it.

Thanks! and yes, that is exactly what I meant. I hope I handled it well. The 2 friends that I was specifically thinking of when I wrote it did comment, one he and I worked it out quickly and easily - he said he was sorry and understood where I was coming from. The other, the closer friend (straight, and non religious) we're still at odds. and it's really bothering me! I've tried SO hard not to be judgmental and critical of his choice to not believe in God, even though I do - yet he doesn't seem to understand (or care?!) that when he makes fun of or criticizes Christians I take it personally. Am I out of line? Maybe I'm being too sensitive.

So do I! But he was saying that I was out of line to think he could phrase it any other way. argh. He said that even though it's not 100% accurate, people use those generalizations to talk about political "positions" etc, and this is the "christian position" - as determined by some crazies at Westboro or Chick-Fill-A?!? That doesn't seem right.

I don't think you're being too sensitive. It's a matter of respect. I would never knowingly disrespect my friend in such a way as that; especially if they had told me it was hurtful to them. I would expect the same amount of respect from them as well.

It's not that difficult to say "those who follow this train of thought" or "those that back this stance." Not everyone backing funding CFA and its donations are Christian or straight, and not everyone opposed is non-christian or gay. I don't see the difficulty in typing a different phrase.
