How do you deal with afterbirth pains?

...and is it true they are more painful with each subsequent pregnancy?

Yes! It was MUCH worse after my second vs my first. I'm preggo again and already nervous about the after birth pains.
Thankfully I only remember them lasting a few days.

Motrin. They do get worse but go away quicker IMO.

Re: How do you deal with afterbirth pains?

For myself, they were much worse with my 2nd birth than with my 1st. I remember telling my husband and nurse that if they were going to be worse than that on the 3rd go around, I wanted my tubes tied! LOL. Thankfully, they only lasted 2 or so days. I know they were over with (for the most part) by the time I left the hospital. I didn't take anything other than the "normal" PP pain medications for them. I used a heating pad while nursing, though, because that's when they were the worst (due to nursing stimulating uterine contractions).

With the Motrin, did you take it around the clock?

With my first I was on tylenol & ibuprofen around the clock due to my nether regions being in pretty bad shape (thanks, doc!), but I still remember some after pains, but they were tolerable. I'm nervous about this time around though, since I don't expect to be as beat-up (going to a birth center this time) and so I won't be on the pp meds.

Has anyone tried Contract Ease?

I did for the first 2 days. Then the pain eased enough that I didn't need anything.

It has been true for me. Just like labor all over again while nursing for the first bit.
I did Tylenol every 4 and Motrin every 6 for the first 2 days with #4

They still gave me ibuprofen at the birth center.
I did the same as Tina. I took Ibuprofen around the clock for the first 2 days and then stopped. I was home less then 7 hours after DD was born so it was easier to take it so I could take care of her and cuddle with my 16 mo DS.

Ibuprofen was a must! And yes, they keep getting worse. I ended up in the hospital this time from some horrible after pains... Thought I had retained some placenta or something! Stay hydrated! That helps a ton!
