So, out of being intimidated by the idea of homeschooling (my family thinks homeschooling is unacceptable, so I have been under a lot of pressure), I signed my almost six year old up for connections academy (or Florida virtual school), I hate it. I hate everything about it.
I'm a stay at home mother, I am more than capable of doing this. I'm looking for something non-intimidating (a full curriculum?), I just need to get away from flvs ASAP. I'm so stressed and feel pushed into this program, it feels so suffocating. Can someone help point me into the right direction? Help. ![]() EDIT: I'm thinking about using the Oak Meadow curriculum.

We used connections for years and loved it but outgrew it as well. I had no need for teachers anymore.
We are looking at oak meadow and calvert (which we used some of in connections). And global student network for my teens. I have heard that oak meadow has lots of writing but not sure on that. I love the price and idea of OM but not sure we have the resources for it. Dont give into the pressure of your family. You know what is right for your children.

Re: Afraid of connections academy
My kids are still young so I just make my own cirriculum. But I agree with the above, don't let family pressure you. You are the mother and you know what is best.

Re: Afraid of connections academy
I think it depends on what style of homeschooling you want follow. I tend to gravitate toward Charlotte Mason and Classical. If I were strictly doing classical and wanted to buy a package curriculum, I'd probably go with Veritas Press. Memoria Press also has a good package curriculum for K, but I'm not a fan of their older grade stuff. For Charlotte Mason, I'd use Ambleside online (most of it is free and online).
I know tons of people recommend My Father's World or Heart of Dakota also, but it's not my style.

Re: Afraid of connections academy
Oh, and by the way, if you feel "pushed" into using it and already hate it DON'T DO IT!!!
Even if you are struggling between choosing 3 different K curriculum packages that are recommended on here, if you end up choosing on and finding out that you don't like it as much, you'd still be better off. You know what is best for your child.

Re: Afraid of connections academy
We use sonlight and love it. I love how everything is laid out for me and all we have to do is read and talk
![]() Good luck finding the right curriculum for your family! It is hard but once you find something you love you will love the freedom that comes with homeschooling on your own!! (We did a virtual school for 2 years...And felt like 6+ hours of school a day was a little much...)

![]() I've heard wonderful things about My Father's World and Heart of Dakota. We did a mix of things here for K for DD last year. You could also check out www.learningpathways.com for a free option. Good luck!

Re: Afraid of connections academy
We loked into virtual academies (Connections denied my son because he has an IEP) but we realized it wasnt for us before we even started.
This reminds me.. I better let the charter school know we arent interested. We are doing Heart of Dakota for K/1 combo (I have a 5 & 6 yo).
