Very tight budget but need new seats
Here's my goal, keep DD2 RF as long as possible and keep DD1 harnessed as long as possible. I am on a very tight budget and will need to save up for a bit to get these seats, but I don't want to get cheap seats and have to turn around and buy again later because they've outgrown them.
DD1 is approx 42lbs, she's almost 6 (in Sept) and currently in a Marathon, her head is pretty much at the point of being at the max height for the shell and it expires in December so she needs a new seat regardless. She is not ready for a HBB by any means and I'd prefer she stay in a 5pt as long as possible. DD2 just turned 2 a couple weeks ago, she's 29-30lbs and 39-40" tall. She is currently in an Evenflo Tribute in grandma's car (Impala) and in a Cosco Scenera in my van, she's pushing the height limit on grandma's (has shell left) and has already surpassed it on mine (but has a bit of shell left)...so she will need a new seat soon just based on height (she's 2 but wears a 3/4t because she's so tall). I had decided to get a True Fit for her but then I saw it only RFs to 35lbs...Im not sure how long it will take her to get to that, but my goal is to try to RF till she's almost 3 like DD1 did (or longer if a seat will let me). Im totally lost on what seats to get them, and I will also have to tell grandma which one to get for her car as well but they must be budget friendly, say no more than $150 if possible. I'd prefer that they both be able to be used as boosters down the road too so we're not buying more seats. Help!!

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
See if you can find an Evenflo Sure Fit to try your daughter out in. On paper, she should have lots of growing room left in one, and the sticker price is only $100.
Put your younger child in the Marathon until December, to save up for the next seat. After that, you might want to look at a Guide 65 Sport. Or, shaving a couple more bucks off, take your Marathon to BRU during the next trade-in event and trade it in on an S1 Easy Fit (which is the same seat as the Guide 65 but with "better" (or different) fabric - normally it's $100 but with a trade-in it would be $75). |

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
Neither will work for DD2 as they only RF to 40" and she's already there. I can get a new seat and move her to the Marathon for my car but I still have to find a seat for grandma to buy for her car before then. Do you have a link for the Sure Fit? I googled it but didn't find it..

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
I'd think for the older one either a Graco Nautalis or an evenflo secure kid would be good. It's been a while since I"ve been in the market for a convertible so I have no thoughts on the younger one. But my son is about the same size as your daughter and also no where near ready for a booster so I've spent a lot of time trying out larger harnessed seats. Oh, and both of those come in under $150.

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
Sorry, I meant Evenflo Sure Ride. It's a super brand new seat; I'll try to find a shopping link for it. I think it's been sighted at Target.

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
Maybe a Graco MyRide 65 for your younger dd? It rear-faces to 40 lbs and my just-turned-3yo has a little room left height-wise. It was just over $100 when I got ours.

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
Darn, I had a whole post written out... and lost it.
![]() http://www.target.com/p/evenflo-sure...p/-/A-14068417 Here's the Sure Ride, though. It has 19" top harness slots. If it's as good as it looks on paper it should last longer than anything else you can get other than a Frontier 85 (but it does not convert to a booster). |

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
It's definitely a good idea to get a combination seat (harness now/booster later) for your older daughter. For the younger one, just get a decent convertible seat and plan on buying a booster a few years down the road. There are no inexpensive seats that are good for rear facing, forward facing, AND booster use.
For your older dd, I agree with the suggestions of the Evenflo SecureKid and the Graco Nautilus. Both are in your target price range of $150, provided you don't pay MSRP. For the younger dd, YIKES she is tall! It will be easier to find a seat for a super-tall kid if your price range expands just a bit, so I agree that I'd put her in the marathon for now and try to save up a bit more money. A Radian would be a good choice if it works for your car. I'm not sure what the next-tallest seat is with a 40 pound rear facing weight limit... If you are going to have to stick with the $150 budget, then keep an eye out for good sales.

OP: I haven't got any advice on your situation other than what's already been posted. I do have a question though, why are their height limits on rf?

Re: Very tight budget but need new seats
i dont think height limits are set in stone, as long as there is one inch of hard shell above their heads. different kids of the same height will fit differently if one is all legs, and one has a long torso, kwim?
