I caught my MIL chewing up pieces of caramel candies and then putting it in dd's mouth, because she didn't have any teeth to chew yet. This was just after her first bday, and since she only had 2 bottom teeth, was still eating homemade puréed fruits and veggies. She couldn't understand the problem, since she was chewing it up baby bird style so that it was small and soft and she wouldnt choke.
FYI-just thinking about this makes me gag.

The thought of anyone besides a parent prechewing a child's food makes me gag.

My baby has food issues & I haven't given him much aside from one ingredient things. It is all healthy but still scary when the allergy stuff comes back negative yet he gets scales, rashes, loses weight etc.

The thought of ANYONE prechewing a child's food makes me gag. I will bite off a small piece for my child to chew but to chew is to infuse the food with your saliva. GROSS!

Haha. I get it. It's good for some babies that need iron sources (like meat) that can't chew it properly. I haven't done it but I would consider it. I personally don't start solids until almost a year but most babies don't have enough teeth to chew meat well at that age either.

Re: My MIL Just Tried...

When I took dd1 to Florida at 8 months old my aunt and I stopped at a restaraunt to eat. She had ordered an alcoholic drink. When she thought I wasn't looking she gave her a sip of it. I was livid and told her under no circumstances is that ok. She couldn't believe I would talk to her that way. After all I was only 22 and must have NOOO idea what I was talking about. :eyeroll:

About the only icecream I've found without high fructose corn syrup is Breyers Natural, and most commercial cake mixes are chock full of HFC and food colorings. Now if it's homemade that is a totally different story. However, MD does have caffeine so yeah, still a lot less nutritional value.

Have you looked into celiacs? The testing for that Is different then the regular allergy testing.
