changing needles
How often do you change the needle in your regular sewing machine?

When it breaks.
![]() Not as often as I should but I've been getting better about it.

Re: changing needles
I'm also really bad about not changing it until it breaks either, oops.

Re: changing needles
Hahahaha! Oh man it makes me feel way better to see that I'm not the only "naughty" one.
Most of the time I just stick an all-purpose needle in there & leave it til it breaks. If it breaks while I'm sewing denim I'll put in a heavy duty needle. But then a lot of times I forget to take the heavy duty one out until it ruins some lightweight fabric

What, you're supposed to change needles? :-) Sometimes I can be quite lazy & forget until they break.

I normally change when I change projects. I ALWAYS put a new one in if I am making something that I am selling.

Re: changing needles
I examine my stitching after each project to see if there's been any change. If things look weird, then I change the needle for the next project. I've noticed with my machine I am more likely to break thread than break my needle. So as soon as the thread breaks, time for a new needle.

Re: changing needles
I change it when things start getting funky for no other apparent reason.

Re: changing needles
I change it every few projects.....but if I'm sewing with really lightweight delicate fabric I change it for the new project....like if I've been sewing flannel and then switch to a dress made of batiste....you should go to a thinner needle anyway....but even if I didn't need it I would....don't want to make bad marks in batiste fabric that won't go away....now if I've been sewing all knits (like fitteds) I just keep going until it breaks or the machine is skipping stitches (that's usually a sign of a dull needle at least on knits).
