How long after birthing did you resume normal daily activities?

Just curious, my midwife seems a bit overprotective to me and I am just wondering when you resumed normal activity, for example using stairs, she said wait a couple weeks! It's been 5 days and I am missing being able to access a whole floor of our home, not to mention the laundry is on that floor and could use some attention. I could understand if I had bad tearing or something but I only had some abrasions and nothing went into the muscle or anything.

What about lifting? Like 2 gallon water buckets for watering livestock?

How about leaving the house? I'm hoping to go to church next week which means an hour ride in the car and stairs at church....

Just curious if I am wanting to push myself too hard or if midwives have some liability here and tend to be overly protective

Thanks!

Like days on all five of babies. I had no driving restrictions either. I just listened to my body

Re: How long after birthing did you resume normal daily activities?

I had a 2nd degree tear and had my daughter at a birth cnter so i was home 8 hours after having her. I walked upstairs as soon as i got home to go to bed. Plus, the only bathroom in our house is on the 2nd floor so i walked up and down the stairs a lot.

So i say... stairs fine.

going to church? sure. its good to get out of the house.

the 2 gallons of water? i'd wait a few weeks IMO

I would just listen to your body and go from there.
I get back into a normal routine pretty much instantly though!

This is me. It was like I didn't even birth a baby! There is just too much to do and I had to go upstairs to leave my house. Follow your body!

Re: How long after birthing did you resume normal daily activities?

With DD we lived in a 3rd floor apartment, so stairs were a must. I stayed home as much as I could for the first week or two, but for the most part I just downed an ibuprofen & went about my normal business. DH was working out of town so I didn't have an option.

With DS, I was up & dressed & walking around my hospital room within 12 hours. I took it easy for a couple of days at home, but only because I was tied down nursing a newborn

I was told to wait on driving, just because the loss of blood can cause fainting, and of course that's super dangerous. Still, sometimes it's impractical.

I had to cool it down after DD because my bleeding increased when I increased activity. Just watch for that. Your body will bleed more if you are doing too much. If it stays the same or decreases, I'd say you're okay... but I'm not a pro, so take it fwiw.

I was just told to take it easy, but I overdid it on the stairs. This time around I plan to avoid stairs as much as possible for about a week or so.

The other stuff? Go for it!
