Have any of you used a stethoscope instead of a doppler?I dont have money for fetal doppler but I do have a few stethoscopes so Im wondering how easy it is to find the babys hb at 18 weeks.

I have not, but I do know it's supposed to be possible.

Re: fetal heartbeat with stethoscope?

I tried with a stethoscope when I was around 30 weeks. I couldn't hear a thing, but I have no experience using a stethoscope. My uncle is a nurse so he found it for me. He could hear it but I couldnt. So if you have experience using a stethescope it is possible, although I think 18 weeks might be a bit early.

My mom and sister are both nurses and neither could hear a HB when I was 20-21wks with DS. Granted, neither are L&D or OB nurses, but I still think it's tough to hear until later in pregnancy...

I got one off of FSOT for $35ish, if you can wait a few weeks I'd be happy to send it your way for the same price :-) Otherwise Sonoline B's (what I have) are about $50 new.

What about a fetoscope? No clue about the price on those though.

MY MWs always use a stethoscope (and a cone) and they give me the stethoscope to listen. I've been able to hear since 21 weeks so if you can't find it now I'd bet in a few weeks you'll be able to.

I got mine on Ebay. It was $75 to $100.. I think? It worked great even early (14- 16 weeks). It really reassured me as I had concerns DD wouldn't make it.

I got mine on Amazon. Think it was about $70 and worked great.

I spotted a lot and it really gave me piece of mind. But I wouldn't let DH do it more than once a week
