Yeah this is the only way I have heard of it being used. It can be used for any behavior modification. Its suppose to condition the person to think of pain when they think of whatever habit it is they want to kick.

I take that back I have heard of this with kids, but in terms of abuse not discipline. On its own I don't think it would be consider (legally) as abuse, but it was included in abuse charges for a parent that abused their child in lots of ways. I have only heard of it in one case.

I used to cut myself for many years, at one point my psychologist suggested this to help me break the habit. It didn't work, I simply substituted the snapping for the cutting and was soon walking around with bleeding welts on my arms and legs. It's a method that can turn bad quickly, IMO. I would never try this with my child, I would be scared that he would develop habits like I had.
