What did you use to teach cursive?

We tried the Rod and Staff material for it last year. My DS wasn't really into it though. I would like to try something else this year. Anyone have something they loved?

We used handwriting without tears. My dd really likes it for cursive but we have used the program since kindy so it was an easy transition for her, program-wise.

ETA - you would need to purchase the student workbook and teacher manual for it.

my DD hated HWT and learning ziltch from it... Its seemed great and it's liked my many I have a weird kid

Were using a very basic book called Teaching cursive This method works..

I used A Beka. We both loved it and Ill be using it again this yr with dd2.

I just received Hwt today for kindergarten and the cursive. I like what I see so far.

I did not use a curriculum. Instead, I wrote each letter on lined paper (the kind with the top, bottom, and middle lines). I showed the child how to form the letter, held their hand while they made it, and had them do several practice letters. I did that with each letter, and when they were fluent in individual letters (both upper- and lower-case), I showed them how to join letters. I've taught 3 children this way. It took about 6 weeks total until they were fluent in cursive writing. I had them practice it daily with our verse of the week or their Awana verses. I could not justify spending money on a cursive curriculum; I taught them to write in manuscript, I figured I could teach them to write in cursive.

New American cursive is what we are going to use this year .

My dd is using New American Cursive. She did book 1 last year and is currently using book 2. She really likes it, and her cursive looks very nice. The only downside is that the workbooks are a bit more expensive than most other programs.
