Re: who's getting U/S who's deciling?

We are getting the 20 week scan. I love seeing baby, and I would prefer to find out if there are any issues that need to be more closely monitored or require intervention. I will also be confirming the gender....they got a pretty good peek at my NT scan so we're thinking boy.

We are doing the 20 week scan here too. I am excited to find out the gender! We weren't going to get any before the 20 week but at both of my last appointments they could not find heartbeat on the doppler and I ended up with a scan at 10 weeks and today at 14 weeks. I opted out of the additional screening since we have already had 2 peeks and hopefully all continues to go well and 20 weeks will be the main event!

I will get one at 20 weeks. That is the only one I get unless my Midwife feels I need another for a medical reason. I get the 20 week one because as I homebirth I really like to be able to see the baby's heart and make sure it is healthy enough for a homebirth. I also make sure there are no other complications going on inside with baby that would rule me out of a homebirth or make it dangerous for baby.

I will get one around 20 weeks, and unless there is a medical need, that's the only one I'll get.

Re: who's getting U/S who's deciling?

We're going to get an ultrasound at 20 weeks. I was a little annoyed at my OB's office because they mixed up the paperwork for the referral from my family doctor and they didn't call me. I ended up calling them and I've only seen the OB once, which was at the end of my 1st trimester.

I want to get the ultrasound to rule out any defects or problems with the fetus, though I wish I'd gotten it done sooner, as I worry that there might be something *really* wrong and the pregnancy might need to be terminated, which would be an easier choice to make at 8 weeks instead of 20 weeks.

I know I'm probably worried about nothing and the baby is probably fine, but the less I know about something, the more I worry!

Re: who's getting U/S who's deciling?

just talked with my hb mw today and she said she is concerned about their safety but their are conditions they can detect that would make her not want a homebirth so she typically thinks one quick 20 week one is a good idea...and she said given my history of molar pregnancy she recommends one...so we are doing a 20 week one...sigh.

Re: who's getting U/S who's deciling?

We're doing a home birth with this baby and we'll be getting the 20 week u/s...mostly because we want to know if we're having a boy or girl but I think it will give me some peace of mind as well for the birth to know that everything is healthy and normal with the baby and placenta

We also do not have insurance, but I called around to the two free-standing medical imaging centers nearest to us and one charges $470 for a 20-week scan and the other charges $200 (considering their cash discount). The hospitals near us charge over $600. It is worth it to shop around. I would NOT go to one of those "keepsake ultrasound" places - if we do it, it will be to rule out issues and look at anatomy (minus sex) and NOT to get a "keepsake photo" of our unborn baby. I would only consider it at a regulated, trusted medical facility.
I agree here; I almost cringe when I see those 4D photos, thinking of what that must be doing to the baby
