How do I get others detergent stink out? UPDATED Getting Closer
Though this is not regarding diapers I thought you mama's might have an idea how to help. If this would be better in another forum let me know or mods please move.
I just received a custom order (not DS related) made out of flannel material and I love the finished item but the mama that did the sewing for me used some kind of flowery smelly laundry detergent that I can't seem to get out. I get bad headaches from certain scents and this sure is one of them! I figured since many of you may buy FSOT items you may have encountered this issue and have some tips and tricks to get rid of the smell. I've tried my planet powder with oxyclean + bacout in the rinse cycle 2x now I have a cup of vinegar in there now soaking - what else should I try? My little one really wants to use the item but I can't until that smell is GONE! TIA!!!!!

I wouldn't put Dawn in your washing machine..... Too many bubbles. I would do a sink soak with hot water and lots of Dawn bubbles!

Re: How do I get others detergent stink out?
I have no help mama, but I can commiserate. I got a bunch of gorgeous yarns from DH's grandmother before she passed away earlier this year. Unfortunately, all of it smells like her very strong flowery perfume. I find I can only work on projects for short bursts with it or I get headaches. It's also a little unnerving for DH because he constantly feels like he can smell his grandmother. I wish I had a way to wash out the smell but I have to knit the yarn first before I can treat it.

Re: How do I get others detergent stink out?
If the dawn works, let us know. I got a diaper bag off if Craigslist that seems to have Gain detergent smell bonded to it. I've washed, sunned it, I even accidentally left it out in a rainstorm. It isn't noticeable from across the room anymore, but it's definitely still there.

Re: How do I get others detergent stink out? UPDATED Getting Closer
Here's the update - this AM they still smelled a bit so I did a second dawn soak while I was out most of the day. Rinsed then put in the wash with a cup of vinegar - they smell better but there is still a smell. I just put them in with washing soda, baking soda and I put a cup of vinegar in the rinse dispenser. I hope this does it as each time my DD2 sees me rinsing them out she starts crying because she wants to have them!
