Give Me Your Detergent Recipe
I'm on a mission to make my own detergent for my dipes. I'm tired of spending $$ on CD-safe detergents and I generally don't like Tide. I'm looking for a detergent recipe that is free of any bar soap: Fels, Ivory, etc. I have already tried a few variations of just washing soda/borax/Oxy without much success.
So, whaddya use?

Most commercially available detergents are fine on diapers as long as they don't have added fabric softener in them. I use Arm & Hammer free, have used All free , and I know a lot of people swear by Country Save.
Tide is not your only option!

Re: Give Me Your Detergent Recipe
Trying country save... may have to try Arm & Hammer's free. I liked All, but got sucked into the Rockin' Green hoopla. It works well for us, but yeah...

Re: Give Me Your Detergent Recipe
I love All, there is a detergent somewhere that uses simple green, but I haven't tried it.

Re: Give Me Your Detergent Recipe
I have two to share...used both and both work great it just depends on your preference for powder versus liquid. It costs about the same...approximately $2 for enough for about 150 loads soitvery economical and hypoallergenic.
Powder: 1/2 bar Fels Naptha, grated 1/2 bar Ivory soap, grate 1 cup Borax 1 cup Washing Soda Use 1-2 tablespoons per load, HE front load friendly. LIQUID: 1/4 bar Fels Naptha, grated 1/2 bar Ivory soap, grated 2/3 cup washing soda (NOT baking soda) 1/2 cup Borax In a large pot on the stove, add 6 cups hot water and grated soap. Heat slowly to boil, stirring until all soap is dissolved. Stir in washing soda and borax. Stir well and remove from heat. Add 4 cups hot water to a bucket. Careful add borax mixture. Add another 22 cups of water to the bucket, cover and let sit overnight. The next morning the top will be very thick and gummy...stir well. I put mine in an old bleach bottle and shake it really well each time I use it which helps with the little chunks of gel that form. Both work great, leave no residue, and have no real smell other than slight clean form the Fels naphtha and ivory. Enjoy! I won't use anything else!!! |

Re: Give Me Your Detergent Recipe
Oh, and for the liquid use 1/2 to 3/4 cup per load depending on soil level...for diapers I do the full 3/4 if not a bit more.

I got bored with the scent. It's cheap.
