I used to yell more often than I'd like to admit, but have gotten a lot better. DD1 knows that one of the consequences of lying is I will yell at her, and that is a scary and loud experience because I can make my voice boom if necessary. Given that, I try to make sure I never yell except for that instance which thankfully is not often at all.

I do tell her sometimes ” this is the last time I am going to say this nicely” and that puts a fire under her bum.

I still need to work on ending a lecture and not going on and on and on and on....

I'm actualy getting worse as a screamer. I didn't use to at all, and I'm not sure if it's because of the age of my kids now, or the pregnancy and being worn out all the time. I find I scream much less if I'm well-rested. I go back and forth about being good with time-outs and being slack about them, and when I'm being good about communication and follow-through, I find that when I start to get angry all I have to do is say '1' and usually DD does what I ask. When I start getting slackabout time-outs, then she starts getting rambunctious for a few days, and counting stops working, so I end up yelling instead of counting. Being consistent with a differnet form of discipline is much better IMO. Thanks for this reminder.

I am trying. I have worked really hard. I have it to where most of the time, when I get angry, the first words automatically out of my mouth are "ODS go to your room now" (4 years). He seems to have picked up this is for the good for both of us. I don't yell it but it is usually tense and short. It is usually just a minute or two so I can take a few deep breaths. I find that after the initial wave of anger, I don't feel like yelling. The trick is getting through that first feeling of anger.
