Re: Just how "many" is many?

I would say 4. Most my family has 2 or 3. I'll be the first one with 4. My dad was one of 4 and my mom was one of 3. We are the only ones that aren't all about making it big.

I think big is over 10. But thats because I have 7 and I keep wondering why it seems so small!

But I think if you cant fit into a standard car/suv/van then its big. We finally had to break down and get the 15 passenger van this summer.

In society's eyes, probably over 4 would be big.

We have 7, and I don't feel like we have a huge family. Anyone I know IRL would say 4+ is big, though.

I think 4+ is "many" but 3 is def normal it seems... I see people with "only" 1 or 2 kids thinking... thats cake
Everyone has thier own ideas of family planning so to each his own.

Re: Just how "many" is many?

I think a lot of people think 4. I want 4 and that doesn't seem like 'many' to me, but we've started announcing our third and by some people's reaction you'd think it was our 13th! Especially MIL, she's apparently terrified I'm going to be like DH's cousing who has a whopping... 8... I'm not sure what it has to do with her anyway since we've never asked for anything for our kids, they've never even babysat them I almost want to tell her we're having triplets or something just to irk her. So weird.

Anyway, when I think many I'm thinking more like 10, lol

Re: Just how "many" is many?

I have 4 kids and where I live, it's considered "many" which is really funny, considering I live 30 minutes from the Duggars! Anyway, like others have said, I don't feel like 4 is many; I feel like it's normal. Many to me is more than 4.

Re: Just how "many" is many?

According to the "normal" sized family it seems to me like 4 is many. Most families I know have 1 or 2, few have 3... rarely do I see a family with 4 kids. But to me many seems more like 6+.

We have five and that many here. Not many families have that around here. Two or three see to be the norm. Although the family crossed the street has 12 adopted kids.

Re: Just how "many" is many?

Most of our friends have three or four kids. We have seven, going on eight (February). We started really getting stared-at in grocery stores, etc. when we had five, so that's what I always consider "large"...just my two cents
