Vintage Singer
Any experts out there that recognize this machine? (CL ad, vintage Singer sewing machine with cabinet). Think it's a good deal? I'm maybe at a beginner/intermediate sewing level and my current machine is acting up. I'm thinking an older, nicer machine would be a better choice than a new, cheapie machine.

Re: Vintage Singer
I'd suggest getting a model number and looking up the specs and features. The ad really doesn't give enough info and many Singers look alike.

Re: Vintage Singer
I agree with the PP. It sort of looks like my mother's old machine but I remember hers was orange (so maybe it was newer?).

Re: Vintage Singer
looks like a touch-and-sew, which are notoriously problematic. there are a couple repairmen local-ish to me that refuse to work on them. get the model number for sure. i've heard that model numbers upwards of 600 is when singers started to go downhill.

Re: Vintage Singer
It is a touch and sew. Some of the earlier models are slant needle which is kinda cool (but normal feet don't fit )
You would have to check to see what year and if it is a slant. I LOVE the cabinet! (**Add $50 to the price to take in into be serviced... If you still think it is a good deal... Buy it. I love my 1961 Kenmore!)

Thanks for the help ladies! I have an old Singer right now (from the 80s I think?). It was giving me issues last night but today is working perfectly, so...who knows. lol. If I end up replacing it I think I just go to a local sew & vac store...since I don't really know what I'm looking for haha. Sent from my iPod touch using DS Forum

Re: Vintage Singer
I have a similar one(I think mines a bit older, it's pink
) I haven't had any problems besides its a little louder, it's more of a whizzing sound, I like it but it's definitely louder then my newer machines. I've had it a few years and no issues at all. However I really just to straight and zig zag with it
