Perhaps a stupid food question....

My DD is a bit over 9 months right now. She eats one meal of pureed fruit or veggies, one of BM/rice cereal and nurses the rest of the time. She is very interested in all the foods my DH and I eat. She has no teeth yet so I haven't given her anything truely "solid" yet. At what point does your child get things like cheerios? Can they get foods like that without teeth?? Do they just gum them down? Sorry - I'm a clueless first time mom whose friends babies all have teeth....

Re: Perhaps a stupid food question....

Put it in your mouth and suck on it...try crushing it between your tongue and the roof of your mouth. If you can do it, it's probably ok to let baby give it a try. Think about it, even when they get teeth, they're biting teeth, not chewing teeth. Cheerios are fine...they dissolve pretty quickly even without teeth. Both of mine have loved things like Zwieback toast because it's rough on their gums and feels good when they're teething. Good luck!
