Re: So I have GD

Went back this week my fasting is a LITTLE higher but still no meds! PP numbers are GREAT.

I have a question today though:

SO I really wish I understood the physiology of blood sugar better. This morning I was up at 7 so I tested at 97 and since the babe was still asleep I laid back down for 45 minutes. Then I got up and tested again (curiosity) and got 119. Why is this?

And is the 97 my fasting number (8,5 hours after any food)?

yes the first is your fasting number. It is a rebound effect from not eating for so many hours. I was able to find a good bit of info by googling when I was researching suggestions for effective evening snacks.

Re: So I have GD

Best i can recall, when you have no food or glucose input for too long, your body makes its own. It breaks down stored fat into alcohol (ketones) and glucose. It usually overcompensates though. This is why we eat a snack before bed and one in the middle of the night. That way our bodies are using the sugars we put in which is the "right" amount of sugar instead of our body thinking its starving, using fat to make sugar to live on, overcompensating and making too much and producing alcohols in the process which is dangerous for the baby. So your lower number was fasting and where you were on the food you ate. Once you awakened, your body immediately said "she's up, we're going to busy, we need sugar to get this party started. Wait, the tank is empty. It's ok, I can make some. Might have made too much like I always do". Then your 100+ number. This is the normal process of gd. I battled this every day. Hth!!!
