Detergent/Washing Advice for a Laundromat Users

Hey all! I am just getting started into cloth diapering with my first baby girl and we are living in a small apartment with NO washer and dryer So... I have to use the laundromat at our apartment complex. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to pay to run the washer 3 times (Pre-rinse, hot wash, extra rinse) like I am supposed to do, but I don't want to ruin my diapers! Any advice? Any particular detergent that I can use to clean better in these washers that are ancient and don't clean that well? Maybe handwashing the diapers? I am new at the this so if you have any advice, please let me know!

I got a Haier hlp21n portable washer. It's tiny, automatic, and amazing. Hooks to the sink, and I put the drain hose in the tub drain and wedged it so the yuckies didn't get into the tub or sink.

That got my diapers cleaner than any full size washer, and was great for my other clothes too. I used flats, they hung to dry in a few hours.

Before that, I would do 2 wash cycles in the laundromat: 1 full cycle without soap, one with, always using Bikoleen all temp liquid (full cap) or a half scoop of Country Save. They rinse well enough to not need more rinsing.

Using flat diapers was critical though. All in ones just are too hard to get clean IME. I have Grovia and BGES and Bg and others now and if I weren't so close to potty training I'd get more covers and go back to flats (in a Flip or gPant or Thirsties cover, with Gmd hemp doublers at night).

that link, didn't work. I am curious too...
tide original powder, I would just wash regularly and see how it goes
rinse out diapers at each change or at the end of the day to get all yucky stuff off, before tossing in washing machine.

Thank you so much for the information/links! I almost talked my husband into getting one of these last night A few more tries and I am sure we will get one of those portable washers. Thank you so much!

Also, so I can use Tide Original and it won't ruin my diapers? I thought that detergents had to be free of all enzymes, dyes, fragrances, etc... But doesn't tide have all of those?

Re: Detergent/Washing Advice for a Laundromat Users

Check out Grovia's website for some common-sense laundry guidance.

I posted in the thread linked above. We use our apartment building laundry. It's not as convenient and certainly expensive, but we still prefer cloth for a variety of non-economic reasons. Recently we've started washing at my in-law's house from time to time (maybe twice per month?) which diminishes the financial sting of coin-op a little. Any chance you could wash at a relative's house sometimes?

We don't live close to family right now, but a family we know has been letting us use their washer once in a while. Thanks again for the help!
