Night Fitted Wash Help

This morning I took off LOs night fitted diaper and it REEKED of ammonia. The rest of his diapers are fine, so it just seems like just this one did not get clean enough, probably because it's so much thicker than his daytime inserts and covers. How can I fix this? Do I need to hand wash it separately? I only have 2 fitteds for night time use, so not really enough for a full washer load. Any suggestions welcome! I am determined to CD at night!!!!!

OK to fix the problem you'll need to use either bleach in your wash to kill the bacteria/stinkies or soak in oxy before washing.

To prevent the issue in the future, what's worked for me is rinsing and rinsing those pee soaked dipes before putting in the pail. Then switching to Tide (the enzymes or whatever's in it not in my Charlie's seems to help keep the stinkies away)

Is this a one time thing? Sometimes their pee is especially stinky if they don't drink enough of water. What I've done that has made a dramatic difference is running the night time diapers through a warm wash/high spin no detergent. We may have stinky am pee but never ammonia.

After you get rid of ammonia by washing with some bleach to kill bacteria...
you should do this in the morning.... take off the night time diaper and rinse out completely for a couple of minutes..I think that will keep ammonia down especially because the diaper is say sitting in ten hours of pee already, then it sits in the pail longer..bacteria causes the ammonia..

Re: Night Fitted Wash Help

We use pocket fitteds for nights, but what I do is take the inserts and put them in a wet pail. On diaper wash day, I run the stuff from the wet pail FIRST in a rinse/spin cycle. I add bleach for that cycle. Then, when they're done, I add the rest of the diapers and wash normally. I wash with Tide Free and Gentle powder. I've had ammonia problems w/nighttime diapers in the past, this is the only thing that seems to work permanently here. My son is 39 months old.
