Re: How much did it cost you to give birth?

I had to pay travel expenses as my midwife was 30 minutes away and the hospital was an hour away. Also payed $200.00 for a 3D ultrasound to determine gender.

I just saw you want medical expenses only. That would be $0.00.

Re: How much did it cost you to give birth?

My first was at a hospital and I was on medicaid in New Mexico: $0 out of pocket. Induction at 37 weeks due to PIH w/pitocin and breaking waters, pain med free vaginal birth.

Second birth was at an independent birthing center in Texas: $3,000 out of pocket/total, only complication I had was a little bit of bleeding, but it stopped quickly w/meds.

Somewhere between $7-10K per kid. Hospital induction that ended in csection both times. And crappy insurance.

For DS1, a $25 copay.
Then our insurance changed...
For DS2, $2000 for the same birth center and $3500 for surgery and 6 days in the NICU.

$850 for prenatal visits, $2800 for my hospital med free delivery, $1100 for DS normal hospital charges. That's with decent insurance, around $5k. Would have actually been around $16k sans insurance.

Re: How much did it cost you to give birth?

My first 2 we were on public aid. We paid nothing. I did see the bills for my first though and for an emergency c-section the cost was around $2500.

Our third we paid $2000 out of pocket for 8 weeks to 37 weeks emergency c-section delivery. The bills totaled $35,000 after discounts. Insurance picked up the other $33,000. Before discounts I think the total was closer to $50,000.

Zero. Maternity and pp is 100% free here unless you choose an Ob outright. I had midwives so it was free.

DD1 - ~$20 for the prescription for T3s and about $16 for parking 4 days. Failed induction and c-section.

DD2 - about 12 dollars for parking, induction with an Epi.

I love being Canadian.

Re: How much did it cost you to give birth?

Does that include the conception??

Including conception we were at around $3000-4000 OOP when we had GREAT insurance. The actual birth was $0 out of pocket for a classical c-section and 6 day NICU stay for DS. This is not including parking fees for the hospital. Nor minor co-pays for pain medication after I left the hospital.

For this next baby (should I get pregnant in 2 weeks) we will be roughly $4000 for the conception (not including the $3000 cryo fees we have paid over the last 5 years) then $5000 for the birth and 5 day hospital stay... and all this is assuming that the baby is born healthy and I am reading the insurance correctly and I can have my peri be in charge of my whole pregnancy without continuous co-pays. Yeah, you can see why DH is looking for another job.

However for me I would pay double that to bring home another baby. I have wanted this next baby for so long now (was ready to start TTC while I was still pregnant with DS, who is 4 in a couple weeks) and this baby means so much to me as he/she has saved my life TWICE now, that any amount is really worth it.

Re: How much did it cost you to give birth?

The actual birth was a $400 copay. This was for a standard hospital birth with DD2.

For DD1, she stayed in the NICU for 6 weeks, so I paid $350 copay, and then another $350 copy with $100 deductible for her, since I was discharged first hers counted as a separate stay.

We have awesome state insurance. I also only pay $15 for the first OB visit, then 10% of labs/ultrasounds after the $150 deductible.
