fenugreek=kidney stones???

I'm on day 12 of relactation, and a few days ago I had a terrible backache. It went away but then came back suddenly yesterday morning. I read about kidney stones and this has to be what I have. The pain is exactly as kidney stones are described (I'd rather be in labor!). Anyway, I've never had problems like this before, so I've got to think that the Fenugreek could be to blame. I stopped taking it yesterday.

Anyone else have this happen, or heard of it happening???

For some good news, I'm up to 8+ oz per day and ds latched on 3 times today (only after finishing a bottle and dosing off, but it's a start!).

Oh gosh, I've never heard of such of thing, but I hope it doesn't really happen. I know that fenugreek can cause some gastro upset here and there.

Hugs! Wow!

Hi! I am very new here but having had kidney stones in the past, I wanted to offer some help! Depending on the type you have (mine were calcium oxalate...I have a love/hate relationship with all things dairy ) they can take months, even years to form. It sounds like you probably do have a kidney stone, but maybe just not from the fenugreek. I cannot emphasize enough that you need to be pushing those fluids!!! Water and lemonade are best! Stay away from anything carbonated or caffeinated! Good luck, mama! With both relactating and with the back pain!

I'm not of the medical profession...this is just my experience with KSs. Just my . HTH!

Calcium Oxalate stones can also form from drinking tea (including herbal tea), I have them too. So, I think that the correlation between kidney stones and Fenugreek might be the delivery system (infusion vs capsules).

As for the infection - Cranberry juice always helps me. Get well soon!

Re: fenugreek=kidney stones???

I just found out a couple days ago that I have a kidney stone. At least I won't be passing mine anytime soon though as it's WAY too big.

Be glad it was an infection and not a stone - infections hurt A LOT, but stones hurt even more!

I second the cranberry juice too! The stronger, the better. I used to actually buy pure cranberry juice and just water it down a bit. You can also get cranberry capsules, they sometimes help even more. Hope you feel better SOON!

Re: fenugreek=kidney stones???

From what I understand about kidney stones, they take a good amount of time to form, so I am wondering if you asked your doc about this and what they said? Glad you found out it wasn't stones, but curious if you asked the doctor about the herb/stone connection
