Breast surgery need to wean fast

I don't know if anyone can help me but I have a couple questions.

I am having a partial masectomy for a malignant breast tumor next week. The surgeon has told me to stop nursing. My little guy will be 1 year in 2 weeks and is taking a bottle fine. I am not doing so fine, my breasts have been engorged for 5 days now, I've tried cabbage, sudafed, tylenol, drinking sage and peppermint tea. I am so sore.

Does anyone have any tips to relieve the discomfort?
Does anyone know if nursing on the unaffected side would increase the production on the side that needs surgery?
TIA!

I would pump off a little for comfort and so you don't get any clogged ducts. You can still nurse on the other side, they make milk separately (trust me, I'm lopsided now

Ice packs in your bra feels nice when engorged.

Thank you, that's eventually what I did, I pumped some off each side and I felt like a brand new person, it was so uncomfortable I didn't think I would ever get through it. Thanks for the information!!
