I definitely understand! I use safety eyes which snap on the inside. They snap super tight and even then I pull with all my might to make sure they can't come apart again. I have had two or three in the past that came apart with a LOT of pulling and I threw them promptly in the trash and got new ones out, performing the same test. Short of cutting through the crochet, these eyes aren't going to come out!

These are the eyes I use though I buy mine from Hobby Lobby usually:
