Any helpful hints or activities for b vs. d ?

My 6 year old DS is having trouble with his b's and d's. He gets them mixed up. Does anyone have any helpful hints or activities I can do with him to help him?

I remember my dad telling me d is for dog and showing me how you can draw a dog with the letters. With the 'd' as the dogs nose and the 'g' the hind leg.

Hope you understood- its hard to describe a drawing with words. Hope that helps

I told the girls b's have bellies. I draw a bed with the letters(with a pillow on the b and then draw a person laying down). I also tie in using my fingers (and teach them to do so) as a b and d so when they ask I can hold my hands up(which they do as soon as I do) and ask 'who's going to bed?'.

Swagbucks. Search. Earn. Redeem. Yep, it's that simple (I've earned $70 in gift cards and counting!).

Re: Any helpful hints or activities for b vs. d ?

If you write "B" and then erase the first hump you are left with a "b" so that how I'm teaching my ds now. I made a big sheet with the capitol and small written on top of eachother in different colored markers.

Also if you look at the word "bed" it sort of looks like a bed so if you were to mix them up and spell it "deb" it wouldn't look like a bed, bed starts with b...clear as mud? I can't use that with my ds now because he can't spell bed. LOL

We use the hand method as well. I learned it from progressive phonics. I think there was a cute clip in Between the Lions on B and D confusion. Between the Lions is off the air now but you could look it up on Youtube or pbskis for your LO to watch.

My daughter learned it from "the b's do the walking (forward) and the d's do the talking (backwards)"

We use this too. I learned it when I was a kid and I taught it to my 6 year old. Turns out, our curriculum teaches using it too. I think it's so cute because he'll be writing something, suddenly drop his pencil, hold his hands up for a second very quickly and then pick his pencil up and keep going.

My DD curriculum taught her to do the hand thing as well and to picture the word "bed" while doing so. This made it even more obvious which one was which, and has worked really well.
