How to Deposit Check Made Out to Maiden Name

Any bankers out there who can tell me the proper way to do this?

Can I endorse it twice - once with my maiden name (the name the check is made out to) and below that with my married name (and the name on the bank acct)?

I have been married for 7 yrs, but got a settlement check from my high school employer (Wal-Mart). It's only $20, but $20 is $20 and I'd like to deposit it!

Oh yeah, we'd like to avoid a trip to the bank - sort of inconvenient for me to get by there. We usually deposit checks through Chase's Andriod app.

I've only ever done it at the bank, but I just sign it hyphenated; Robbyn Maiden-Last. They get it.

I just signed it like normal. If you've been there a while and they know you it shouldn't be an issue. Or hypenate.

Re: How to Deposit Check Made Out to Maiden Name

When I got married my uncle wrote a check to me and to my step-father. This uncle is on my father's side so it was comical. It was a pain. My step-father had to come with me to the bank to sign it. It was for a large amount and it was an out of state check. My step-father was only in town for a day or two. I think we wound up having to go to check cashing place...it was 14 years ago so the details are a little fuzzy.

I've been married for 3 years and my checks still say my maiden name (I've changed it, not sure why they won't change it LOL) and I just sign checks with my married name, never had a problem!

What everyone else said. Shouldn't be a problem... especially since it's just $20. Worst case scenario, bring a copy of your marriage certificate or an old ID with you to the bank.

I've signed maiden and then married name before. Most banks don't have a problem with that.

My bank drives me crazy, though it's 90% MIL and 10% bank. MIL ALWAYS makes checks out to "Annie" rather than "Anna" and the bank will. not. deposit. it. Unless I sign both Annie LastName and then Anna LastName. MIL gives us checks often enough for me to know to just sign both names.

You can sign both names or just write for deposit only on the back
