Re: 3rd labors resemble 1st?

My midwife has said the same thing. I'm almost 29w with #3, so we'll see.

DS1 was born at 36w, so hoping that doesn't happen again, but his labor was just under 3 hours.

DS2 was born at 38+3, and his labor was 65 minutes. I honestly don't want a labor any shorter--I'd like enough time to call the mw and fill the tub, thanks, and actually get my head around the fact I'm having a baby... *before* it actually happens

Interesting! I've never heard that. my first was,8 hours. My second 45 min. And unfortunetly, 3rd was a c-section. But my next vaginal birth after the C. Was 4hrs..should have been about 2 but she was postetior with both hands in her face..but still shorter than my first. Not sure it has any revelance tho since she wasn't technically my 3rd, just my 3rd labor.

Interesting. Im due with #3 in 2 months so I'll be interested to see. My 1st and second were nearly identical labors, down to the time they started and when baby was born, and both were past 40 weeks. I hope for at least the same, but shorter would be nice!

My first and second were almost exactly the same anyway; number 2 was just shorter but more intense. I wouldn't mind a repeat of number 1 if my husband ever gives the go-ahead for a third!

Actually I've heard that the third labor tends to be more unpredictable...

Ive always heard that #3 will throw the curve ball!
That was very true for me! He was breech until just days before I went into labor! My water broke before labor (first time for me), and my labor was 2.5 hours long! Compared to the first 2 that were 7h and 6h long!

I work in L&D and i have noticed that babies 3 and or 5 tend to be the wild cards and go against the "pattern"

Great...

#1 for me was a week overdue, induced, about 12 hours, a couple pushes.

# 2 was before 40 weeks, maybe 5 hours of labor and a few pushes.

I was hoping to keep up the pattern. I'm 38 weeks now. Then again, this pregnancy has been completely different from the previous ones, so we'll see.

Re: 3rd labors resemble 1st?

My 3rd was my shortest and my hardest labor. After she was born I had intense afterbirth pains and was still in pain for a bit after delivering the placenta. My MIL (mom of 8) and my Midwife both said that often the 3rd is the hardest. I know that sounds like bunk but my MW has delivered 3,000 babies and I've heard from other moms of 3+ that the 3rd is the hardest. Mine didn't resemble either of my prior births. DD paved her own way.

ETA: I'm hoping #4 is more like #2. I had hours of labor that hurt but they were bearable. Then I went from 6 to 10 in half an hour and pushed for 10 minutes or so. And he was born at 39 weeks.

I've never heard that, I've just heard that #3 tends to be the "wild card" and you never know what to expect. I'm due with #3 in a couple weeks, so I guess we'll see.

I have always hear the 2nd is shorter than the 1st and the 3rd is a wildcard.

For me, my 3rd was the shortest active labor and the easiest by far.

My 1st and 3rd babies were exactly the same weight and length, though.

1st was 6 hours start to finish (5 hours active labor)
2nd was 3.5 hours start to finish (2 hours active labor)
3rd was 4 hours start to finish (20 minutes active labor)

I start counting from my first indication of labor, which is losing my plug. Contractions never start right away, though I can feel my cervix dilating.
