Re: Was your DH or s/o allowed in during 20 week ultrasound?

That sounds crazy. I had my mum, gram, little sister (9yrs at the time), and my ex with me.

No. He was not allowed and I wasn't even allowed to watch until it was mostly over. Then they brought him in and showed us the baby briefly.

It was very medical.

Oh and as much as I wished it was different and hope that it's different this time around... I don't agree that it's your right or whatever. It is medical testing. All they are required to do is check growth and look for problems. Gender, looking lovingly at your child - none of that is the point, medically.

It's certainly wonderful when you get those things, but that's sorta not the point.

I hope we all have happy ultrasounds and friendly ultrasound techs, I just don't agree with the above posters about what the ultrasound is for.

They did the same thing to me with dd! With this pregnancy my dr does the u/s himself so it's not an issue.

That's how it's done at our hospital. Until all the measurements etc are done I don't even see the screen. I don't think it's a big deal. They have a job to do and they do it. When they are done they invite everyone in to see baby.

My doc with the girls would let anyone come watch at the 20wk u/s(and we happened to need another one 4wks later with both girls and again, anyone could come). My doc this time does an u/s at every visit and everyone is welcomed. However I went to a speacialist for testing at 13wks, the 20wk scan, and will be going at least 2more times to check lo size and no one under 10 is allowed.

I had most of my ultrasounds done at the OB, and for my DS's 20 week u/s DH and my mom were both there. When I was at the hospital at 36 weeks for what they thought was labor, they did an u/s to check on the baby. DH wasn't there, but I honestly can't remember if it was hospital policy or if he was in my room trying to sleep because it was 6am and we had been up all night.

While I agree that it's not my right to have DH in there...It is also my right to just not have the Ultrasound not done at all. I think it's quite an elective test. Billions of babies were born prior to ultrasound, but they keep adding more and more to the "routine" prenantal care.

So I guess my point is that if this is not a life or death situation...how is my well-behaved husband interfering with this routine test? (I certainly DO understand if they don't want more than just your DH in there). Heck, DH was in the room holding my had during my C-section...and that is certainly a lot more "medical" than an ultrasound!

Maybe I would feel differently if I had never heard of people being allowed to be in the room with you during the scan...but all my prior ones I had someone with me and the techs were very friendly and welcoming...and everyone else I know has said the same thing. Having the hospital tell me "no" was quite a surprise!

DH and our youngest (3) was at the 20 week U/S. We get to watch the whole thing. They have a seperate screen on the wall for parents to watch.

He has been to all three 20 week u/s.
