Both boys stopped napping by 2-1/2! We still have a quiet time of the day and occasionally, my 3 yo will take a nap then if he's particularly crabby. Those naps are pretty rare, though. My 5 yo never naps. Oh well...

Re: What age did your child give up naps?

I am curious, because I know quite a few parents with kids my DS's age that are pushing them to stop napping, even when they admit, they really do still need them, by the end of the day. Also I am curious how much longer do I get to enjoy naps, and figure out how long to schedule them when school starts. Thanks!

My first was 34 months. She still has daily quiet time though, which I will continue until Kindergarten. My 2yo shows no signs yet of giving it up, and I think she'll continue for a while, she's always needed/preferred more sleep.

Re: What age did your child give up naps?

My oldest stopped napping very shortly after his 4th birthday, he still had quiet time and just after a while napped less and less.

My second would probably still nap if I let hm (he will be 4 in a few weeks) but he was having trouble going to sleep at night, and would often stay up until close to midnight just unable to sleep. We cut out naps and he does much better. There are still some days he wants to nap, sometimes I let him because he really seems to need the sleep, other days he naps and is once again up until 11 or 12.

So parent led and child led, but both between 3 and 4.

My youngest is only 20 months, but she's already cut down to 1 1.5-2 hour nap. My boys were both still taking 2 2 hour naps at her age. So I bet she will cut them out on her own earlier than they did.

Dd naps about once every 1-2 weeks. She sleeps 12 hours at night, and has quiet rest time about 50% of the time now. She is 2.5 and more likely to nap on the days she is at MIL (where she has to get up earlier to get there) than on the days age wakes up on her own. She hadn't really napped much past 2, but we kept trying until recently.

Dd1 is 5 1/2 and still naps most days for an hour and a half to two hours. Some days (maybe 1-2 times a week) she just rests and looks at books or plays with her dollhouse. I lay down with her for the first 20 -30 minutes and get a little nap myself.

Eta-my other two are a WRECK if they don't nap.
