Has anyone used The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading

We just started this and I am finding it to be quite boring. It just seems so quick, not even twenty minutes and thats it. Has anyone done multiple lessons in one day or is that not recommended? I also debated getting The Reading Lesson, would that be a bit more "interesting"? I don't know, maybe it's premature but I just feel like we're not gaining anything yet  This is for my son who just turned 6 and is not yet reading and my 4 year old who is very interested in reading but can only recognize sight words at the moment.

I am using it but I added in the downloadable worksheets from Starfall and let her watch the videos for each sound that way it's multi sensory.

Re: Has anyone used The Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading

I am using it right now strictly to help my 2 oldest boys(7 & 5) learn all the vowel pairs and phonics rules. However, I do not fully agree with how they teach reading.

I taught them how to read using Teach your child to read in 100 Easy Lessons when they were 6 and 4.

I much prefer the layout and teaching style of 100 Easy Lessons. I am now using it for the third time with my newly turned 4 year old. You and your son may enjoy it too. Their style of teaching makes more sense to me than The Ordinary Parents Guide. My 2 oldest sons LOVE to read and I give the credit to 100 Easy Lessons.

If you have any more questions, feel free to pm me!

I've found most introductory reading lesson plans last only about 20 minutes. After that you childs interest goes down and they aren't retaining much. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

I looked at both and ended up going with The Reading Lesson. DS and I work about 20 minutes/day on reading doing 1-2 pages depending on DS's interest level. We've just started lesson 3 and I really like it.

My daughter wouldn't sit through 100 Easy Lessons...they aren't even that long and it makes sense to me too...but she hated it She is a doodler so I let her play with something or draw while we do OPGTR.
