OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

So...I went to the OB yesterday and got a pregnancy test. Negative. She thinks I did in fact have a chemical pregnancy. Makes me want to since I was THAT close...She told me that she feels I have a form of secondary infertility and told me that I should be thankful for Ds because it really is a miracle that I got preggo with him. Chances of pregnancy are very low for me she says. I am SO glad we have Ds. I would never give him up for the world!!!! I am, however, upset that I will not be able to have anymore kids on my own unless by chance I happen to ovulate. She says that basically I don't ovulate. She said that women who don't ovulate, don't get a thick lining because there is no egg being released and so the lining doesn't feel the need to shed...and so it doesn't get thick. I'm a little confused at all of this still.
She gave me paperwork for an ultra sound to get my lining checked to confirm this.

She says we will be doing a round of provera and clomid and if that doesn't work she says we can try going on birth control for a few months to try and jumpstart things that way...Does that sound normal to everyone else?

I'm confused because I thought they did birthcontrol method first and then provera and clomid. Ds was running around in a hyper active craze so I was listening to her and watching him...so maybe I missed something.

Re: OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

Did she say why she didn't think you were ovulating? That would be my question. There are a lot of reasons and if you can get that figured out then maybe it would be easier to get things going. I wasn't ovulating on my own either (until the last 3 or so years) but I was diagnosed with PCOS. But even before my diagnosis I went to a regular OB MD and he did put me on a few rounds of provera/clomid hoping to get things going (cause we'd been trying for just over a year at that point) None of them worked though until I did glucophage/clomid which just happened to be a great combo and blessed me with my first 3 kids. Have they done bloodwork or anything to figure out why?

Re: OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

I *think* she said I have a form of Amenorrhoea. I'm not sure though. I was pretty confused by the appt. She's doing an u/s and bloodwork next week to check into it more. She looked at my old records (my mom had me in there as a teen literally every to every other week because something was "wrong" with me. I had bloodwork done almost twice a month because she was getting me checked for things and said the Dr's didn't know what they were talking about and my mom told me that she thought I was infertile...long story. I was a teen and had no idea why mom was so worked up about it and didn't really care to go.) I have no one to watch Ds so he was with me and was EVERYWHERE so it was hard for me to concentrate. After talking it over with Dh, he said he'd take off to go with me next time to watch Ds. I can't take him back with me for the u/s anyway. They will be doing more blood work too just to check hormones and some other things. After the next two weeks of testing and things, she's starting me on provera.

She's going by information from when you were a teenager??? She's saying you don't ovulate before even doing blood work? She wants to put you on the pill which will mess your hormones up even more? I don't know but it sounds like she doesn't know what she's talking about unless there is more information that I'm missing here. Have you ever charted your cycles? Have you ever had a positive ovulation test? Are your cycles regular? I really suggest reading, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and getting to know your body yourself. Blood work done on the wrong day for "you" will give incorrect results. Don't leave yourself in her hands without arming yourself with information.

I agree with the PP, something is very not right here. If you had a chemical pregnancy, doesnt that mean you ovulated? Theres so much wrong with what she's diagnosed without a single test. I would really get a second opinion from a different doctor. And the suggestion of reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an awesome one. The book has SO much important info in it that is not common knowledge or really taught to girls/women. I gave a copy to my SIL when she was having a hard time getting pregnant. After reading it and charting carefully, she was able to figure out that her luteal phase was too short and ask her doc for progesterone. That was the month she got pregnant with my nephew.

Re: OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

Thanks ladies. She asked if I was testing for O at home. I said yes and I've only had one positive test. She said, "Well, we know you O atleast once a year." She had been testing me through bloodwork before on progesterone levels and things. But, I got my period, very much a surprise, yesterday morning. She said if I started bleeding that meant I probably miscarried since I did have those two positive tests so now I'm a little upset. I'm calling in tomorrow to ask a ton of Q's because I'm so confused. What she's telling me doesn't make sense and the whole not running updated tests on me is confusing me as well. I'd like a full body check up type deal. She seemed to think that if I don't feel any different and things seem to be the same as they were when I was a teen that they probably hadn't changed. I'm 24 now and before Ds was conceived on the tail end of 22, I hadn't been there or tested in around 5ish years.

The PA I see is great and to the point about things, which I like, but she seems very pushy on meds...I'm hoping maybe I misunderstood something b/c of all my prying Ds's hands off of things and trying to keep him from fussing...I'm hoping things will be cleared up on the phone tomorrow b/c I am absolutely beyond confused now that I've done research on what she said. I have the same Q's you girls are asking me too and then some. I'm going to try and call her while Ds is napping so I can hear her and understand exactly what she's saying.

Good luck with the phone call. Have you thought about seeing an RE? Not all OBs really know what they are talking about when it comes to fertility...odd as it sounds. I think she is one of them.

Re: OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

Thanks ladies...I know this sounds like a stupid Q but I'm drawing a blank...RE??

I called and she doesn't go in until 11:30. The receptionist said she sent a message back to her computer so she's to call me this afternoon. I feel like Last time I called in and a message was left (a few months ago with a Q) she didn't call me back for 2 days so if she doesn't call before 5, I'm calling her. They close at 6 tonight.

Re: OB appt yesterday went like this...Starting medication.

Reproductive Endocrinologist (I hope I spelled that right) And agreed that while OB's can be great sometimes you need to go to a fertility specialist to get real answers. I agree that you need new work-ups. Your body and hormones could have changed severely since you got and had your DS I know mine has from baby to baby. The good thing is you are only 24 so you have plenty of time so don't stress too much about it. I would ask why she thinks that you aren't ovulating consistantly. Generally there is a reason, whether its thyroid, insulin.... and all those things can be checked. If you don't feel like you are getting what you need from your MD then go somewhere else. I wasted 4 years going to a fertility MD just to find out he had never "officially" tested me for PCOS and then come to find out throught the next MD (cause I definately switched after years of injections and IUI's..)
that all I had could be dealt with was glucophage/clomid combo and worked the first try for my first 3 PG's- after that my body had worked it out so I had 2 nice surprises. Now I seem to be back to PCOS again so going back on meds which I hate but I'm getting older and don't have any more time to waste. Good luck and remember you are in charge of what happens to you so find out what the issue is and look up all the different ways that there is to deal with it present it to your MD- if she doesn't want to do what you want to then move on to the next cause you don't want to waste your time on something that won't work cause you don't even know what you are treating. KWIM?- SOrry SO long!
