My ped also told me once they can roll on their own you should still lay them on their back, but you can leave them if they roll over.

In the NICU there is a conscious adult there the whole time, and they are hooked up to heartrate and oxygen monitors, so I consider that a completely different situation. Our NICU did swaddling and back sleeping.

Certainly not judging anyone who does tummy sleeping, just not a risk I feel I could take.

Re: Back to sleep, or not?

None of mine were tummy sleepers until probably 3 or so, as babies they would roll to it during sleep. I've never seen my youngest asleep on his belly, it's either back or side. That seems weird now that I think about it.

I think if I had a baby that preferred to sleep on its belly I would buy a monitor.

mama. I know it's rough.

If you've tried everything you can, it's time to look at other solutions. If you're nervous about it, get an angelcare monitor and let your baby tummy-sleep. You both need rest. Make sure that all other risk factors are taken care of (ie no crib bumpers, pillows, fluffy blankets, smoking in the house, etc) too.

I did a TON of reading and decided I was comfy letting my DS tummy-sleep without a monitor, but I know many people would not be comfy with that. You have to do what is in your comfort-zone.
