LO scared of potty

Feeling pressure to potty train, but just don't know how to do it? I know there are methods out there that I have read about, but my daughter Lily is terrified of the potty. Both on the big potty and the little potty she is scared to even sit down on it. Any advice?

This won't really help, but there is a potty training board book with a Lily, "Lily's Potty"!! Just thought I'd throw that out there; we're still on the beginning stages here too.

Re: LO scared of potty

I have a baby bjorn potty chair that I will reccommend. otherwise to get her to sit on it you would just use distraction. sit her on the potty first thing in the morning after you have started a game with her. she will probably be in a good mood and a little groggy. when she becomes facinated by a cartoon or a toy that is when she may not mind it either. mornings have always been good for us. and do not ask her if she wants to sit on it and do not tell her either. then you are making a big deal and she may get scared. be very quick about it and dont make a fuss. you are not going to be able to talk her through her fear. the only way is to let her experience it by sitting on it. when shes on it continue playing the game and let her sit for a few minutes. that is step 1.

I have to agree, using the potty as a chair in front of the tv or where she is really distracted can help her get use to it. Not all the time but enough to help her become desensitized.

Re: LO scared of potty

Has anything ever happened that would cause her to be afraid? Is she afraid of the bathroom in general? Has she ever sat on a toilet and fell in or been pinched?

Re: LO scared of potty

Does she have a favorite doll that you can have her "teach" to sit on the potty. My LO loved reading her Elmo Potty book and then putting her Teddy Bear (Radar in the book) on the potty.

I downloaded some fun apps on my tablet and let my LO play with them ONLY when on the potty. That helped a lot. In particular I had a Little Critter book app called, "The New Potty" which was great. It was only 99 cents and it reads aloud. If you have a smart phone you could try that.
