Wool cover question
Hi I am new here. I have a 3yos, 18 mos, and baby due 12/24! I have some wool covers that I like to use at night with my boys (Loveybums) but my oldest's cover has been stinking like urine even after washing. Any thoughts? I am not a pro at using wool by any means, but I do take care to hand wash, lanolize and air out my wool. Wondering if anyone has experienced this or has any suggestions. Thanks!

Re: Wool cover question
Are your diapers also stink? Stinky diapers can make stinky wool. I washed our diapers once in Rockin Green detergent. It caused our diapers to stink horrendously which in turned saturated our wool covers. It took around 3 days at least to air them out.

Re: Wool cover question
I use Babee Greens Hemp/cotton fitteds on them at night under the wool. I find that I have to do a soak about once a week due to ammonia smell by the end of the week. I do use Rockn' Greens soap. Perhaps I need to switch detergents for my cd? I will put my wool outside for a while to see if that helps things.

Re: Wool cover question
Yup I would bet stripping diapers and wool then a different mainstream detergent will solve the dreaded stinkies.
That cloth diaper safe detergent list get rid of it. If a detergent is not recommended it will very likely do a much better job at cleaning than the ones with a high rating on the list. |

Re: Wool cover question
Yes change detergents and use bleach to disinfect your diapers. I would then strip your wool with some Dawn and then re-lanolize.

Re: Wool cover question
I suppose I will need to do some research on a new detergent. I have moderately hard water so that is always an issue too
thanks for the advice!

Re: Wool cover question
I wash with RNG and soak with the same. For our wool I use Lana care wool wash. I will be switching our cd detergent to Tide I think after reading lots of posts on here. It sounds like the RNG may be what is causing all the trouble. Going to run my wool through the delicate cycle to make sure they are getting rinsed really well.
