ring sling problems

I have a sakura bloom linen ring sling and my DS is almost 4 months old. Lately he stretches his body out in the sling (like he's trying to stand up) and straightens his legs. I can't seem to keep him in a seated position in the sling (this is while tummy to tummy with legs out).

What can I do to fix this?

My son does that and I just let him stand in the sling. I just have to keep one arm on him. He doesn't like to sit down anywhere!

I think a good, deep seat is harder to pop out of.
Does baby have good enough control for hip carry?

Re: ring sling problems

A that age I sometimes turned him out and set him in the sling with his legs folded Indian style, does that make sense? Ive never seen anyone else do it, but it worked when he wanted to see more of what was around him.

Get him in the sling like normal, and then turn him to face out and use your hands to fold his legs so they are criss crossed, then tighten the edges of the sing so its more like a hammock. If you do this make sure both the front and back edges are up high and that the front is pulled close to your body so he can't tumble forward, though you'll still want one hand in front just in case. It looks uncomfortable from the outside, but my babe was perfectly happy like that for a while. I think he just wanted a change.

If he's got the head control, I would suggest flipping him around to the hip.

This sounds like my ds! I stopped using my sling for a while because it became such a fight I do the hip carry with him now at 3.5 mo because he seems to like it better, I just have a problem getting the sling in the right spot on my shoulder, but I'm sure i'll get it with practice.

Re: ring sling problems

I wear my ring sling with my rings on my back... I saw it on a utube video by Jillian from paxbaby.com. Just search for PAXbaby Ring Sling instruction Video Chat.

I find it more comfortable and I think it makes the pocket a little deeper cuz the taper that usually is at your shoulder is on your back. I think this may give your baby a deeper seat and make it more difficult for him to leg straighten. Make sure the tail is pointed down and forward, then I cap the shoulder folding it up and down. Good luck.
