eat before induction?

I'm hypoglycemic and getting induced tomorrow morning. The info sheet they sent home said not to eat before hand, but I get really bad if my sugar drops, like impatient-angry-hot-nauseas-going to faint- bad. But, I had terrible nausea and upset stomach during my labor with DD, before any meds were given, and I had just eaten a few hours before active labor started. Then I had an emergency C-Section and was sick afterwards. My cervix is at least 80% thinned out already. I have no idea how long it will take for the contractions to set in after the pit is started. Last time it was immediately after my water broke. I wonder if I can eat something fairly light before going in and not throw up? I just don't know how I can get through labor without eating all day.

Re: eat before induction?

I would. Maybe like peanut butter toast with orange juice or maybe some eggs. Once you get to the hospital the probably will only let you have clear liquids.

DDC....I ate right before going in to be induced with dd in September 2010. It was perfectly fine.

You need your energy

Yea. Eat! You're about to push a baby out. You need energy. I'd juice some fresh fruits and veggies. That way your getting the nutrients without it slowing down your digestive tract

Re: eat before induction?

I ate before my induction, even though they said not to. I even snuck some snacks in while in labor.

DDC to say- yes eat! Whether you eat or not doesn't have too much of an effect on if you throw up, so don't worry about that. It's better to have energy, especially since you know that you have issues with blood sugar drops.

Good! I was induced & in labor for 18 hours... Ate breakfast, lunch, AND dinner. I would've been a wreck without eating.

Yep. Eat! They tell you not to "in case" they need to give you an emergency c-section. But my midwife actually encourages eating during labor, to keep your strength up.

Take some honey with you, honey is very nutritious and it will boost your sugars if you start to feel them dropping.

When I was induced with DS1, doctor let me eat a late dinner, then they started my pitocin at 7am. I think I had DH sneak me some crackers during the day. LOL

I didn't eat before hand with this baby, but I didn't feel like eating in labor. I did drink Gatorade though. Neither the nurse or doctor told me I couldn't, until I threw up, then the nurse "suggested" I should stop the Gatorade and just have water. I was done with it anyway.

God bless!
