Educational kindle apps

My mother in law is planning to buy a kindle fire for my son for Christmas.

I'm looking to get some educational apps for kindle.

I got some educational apps for ipod for my son, but I never owned a kindle, so I don't know a lot.

Is there a alot of educational apps for kindle out there? if so, where is a good place to look for them?

Any recommendation for 7 year olds and up?

There are tons of educational apps for kindle fire as well as free e-books depending on the age of your child. My youngest (and even my oldest to be honest) enjoy touchy books. My kids don't have a kindle but they have android tablets and I get all of their apps from amazon's android market place. I find it a bit cleaner and it came on their tablets so it was super easy to use for them. I just log on to my amazon account and download the apps right on to their tablets for them. I can also put books onto their tablets. It really all depends on what you are looking for and what your child is interested in. Kearnan loves the penguin app where he can watch the penguins in the CA zoo (not that educational but interesting enough for a kid who is fascinated by penguins) he also enjoys all of the NASA apps. We have flash card apps for everything from ASL to presidents and states. The boys also do tangrams on the tablets. We mostly stick with free apps.

ETA: Galaxy Zoo has been one of Kearnan's favorites, you get to study and classify galaxies and look at amazing photography from Hubble. It is also free.
