Re: Non minimalism?

My weakness is kid toys and books. I've been cutting back lately but it's still hard. I think I'm partially trying to create a better version of my childhood for my daughter. I give her way more attention than my parents gave me and that should be enough, but I love reading to her and playing with her, so I guess I gravitate to stuff we can use together. Also, I have hand-me-down toys stowed away for when she's old enough for them, so I'm trying to weed out items when I have more than one or so per category. For example, I think all figures are in the same category, so I kept Playmobil (actually bought off craigslist) and Barbies and got rid of the My Little Ponies and Polly Pockets.

Makeup, fabric and books. No reason to be minimalist with those things, for me, because I use many of them often, and books are a good reference. Also bed pillows... I love having a ton. I'm ok with that though

Kids clothes, books, and cloth diapers. I'm working on the clothes and diapers. The books, I'm keeping those.

I would say electronics. DH and I both have smartphones and tablets as well as a home computer. Sometimes the cost of it all makes me a little sick but we really do use them all the time. I use the GPS on my phone all the time, and the calendar on my tablet connects to my phone and I really rely on it.

IF I got rid of a couple hundred books, we'd still have over 2000! DH is obsessed with Sci-Fi books, his collection is better than any library's in the county. And he's got lots of religious books that can't be found in any library. I've got lots of homeschooling books, and lots of novels that the kids read for school.

Other than kids and books, I collect yarn. I buy it much faster than I can use it! I have been trying to reevaluate my stash though. I could get rid of some of it. I do have more fabric than I should. I used to sew a lot, but I haven't sewn anything since I was pregnant last year. Besides books, DH collects board games (we play them A LOT) and tools (he doesn't have tons, and he uses what he has to build bookshelves!) and CD's (he LOVES music and doesn't likes the physical presence of a disc) and we probably have way too many dvd's, although all the kid dvd's get watched way too much!

Re: Non minimalism?

Toys, we have a bedroom turned playroom full to the gills, kids never even go in there. I do purge them regularly, but I have a problem buying when I find a great deal and think they would love it. Neither of my kids are big on toys, so I guess I'm always on the hunt for something they *may* like?

I like saving jars too! I don't even try to rationalize it by saying that I'll use them to store stuff or make gifts or anything... I just like them!
