Re: Craziest "thrifty" meal you've ever made?

My husband loves to make mac n cheese with cream of mushroom soup and ham added to it. Its really actually tasty. Im sure once the baby comes and starts eating dinner with mommy and daddy we will be adding some vegetables to it

One time the cloth diapers sat for like a week and there were mushrooms growing on them. So we picked the mushrooms off and sprinkled a little salt. Yum yum!

2 boxes of mac n' cheese or similar amount of homemade

1-2 packs on cheap hotdogs (depends on what we have on hand)

Cook the mac n' cheese as directed, chop the hotogs into tiny rings/slices and fry them in a pan, heat the peas. Layer them all on each plate or separate for those more picky. Voila!! Quick, thrifty, delicious meal!
This^ I love Mac and cheese with hotdogs! But I prefer to eat mine with corn

I saw a friend make these once and then copied her;

You need uncooked spaghetti and hot dogs to start.

Cut up hot dogs into 1" lengths, break spaghetti noodles into 3" lengths. Stick 4 noodles into rhe hotdog so that they stick out and make 8 "legs" total. Drop gently into boiling water until the noodles cook - only a moment or two.

Serve as is or with sauce.

We call them spider-weenies. :-)

We don't break the "legs," and we call them octopus dogs

Re: Craziest "thrifty" meal you've ever made?

Our frugal dinner yesterday was a $2 frozen pizza dough , defrosted, topped with .75 worth of sauce, about .33 cents worth of frozen chopped spinach, and $1.50 worth of cheese.
Baked and served the 2kids and dh and myself.

Today we had .88 box of ziti, mixed with $1.50 ground beef, $1 sauce, $2 cheese, ..55 frozen chopped spinach, and .70 ricotta. Mixed together in baking dish, and baked. "sloppy lasagna" it lasted tonight Nd tomorrow for dinner.

Real frugality comes through in a cup of red lentils, half onion, few garlic cloves and a bit of ginger if on hand, one tomatoe, lots of dif spices. Pressure cooked, ladled atop the rice.

Super frugal/poor
Or Mac n noodles for the kids, and ramen for us.

Ps....what's with the soup that's made entirely of butter? I guess butter was much cheaper than it is now. Lol
