We have soft water and I never strip (I did once). Just use a little chlorine bleach here and there and you'll be fine. We like original liquid Tide.

When I had that problem with Tide I switched back to Country Save. Had fewer stains too.

I've never liked Rockin Green or others marketed just for cloth.

I used to love Tide until our allergies prevented using it. But now I find whenever I get FSOT diapers that were washed in Tide (and smell clean at first) my prewash with Country Save brings out a lot of hidden stink.
