Re: No pregnancy while bf'ing.
![]() hope its ok to revive this one! I was going to as myself... I had "trouble" getting pg the first time so the second time I don' t know if I should chalk that first year of "secondary infertility" up to breastfeeding? or is this really more of an old wives tale? Now I'm worried about having the same multi year problem I had last time. Anyone have any more success stories you're willing to share? |

I have gotten pregnant 5 times while bf'ing. 3 ended in m/c and 2 healthy babies. Our hormone levels are not optimum for pregnancy so that does make pregnancy harder to achieve and maintain. But it can be done. With the 2 babies, I did wean immediately after a bfp.
If you're less than 30, your hormone levels should be better apt to achieve and maintain a pregnancy (bf'ing or not) The older we get, the lower our hormone levels. |

Re: No pregnancy while bf'ing.
I nursed my son for 16 months and did not get pregnant while nursing even though we would not have minded

yep, I'm 36 and feel like I've been trying to get pg since I was 28/29. One DD, one DS, and one m/c angel in heaven... hoping for lucky number 4.

Re: No pregnancy while bf'ing.
I'm currently nursing my almost 16 month old DS only in the morning and before bed and I just got my AF back last month (Sept. 28th it started). However, I did O for the first time last month but I think my subsequent AF was a chemical pregnancy because I had a few +ve hpt's before AF arrived. Anyway, I'm still not pregnant and we've been NTNP ever since my son was 7 months. Up until last month all my opk's were -ve. I know it can be frustrating if you're really ttc but don't quite want to stop. Oh how nice it would be if we could have it both eh! That's why my DH and I decided to NTNP, its much less stress for us.

Re: No pregnancy while bf'ing.
No personal experience (just a degree in biomedical anthropology), but it is not uncommon for lactation-induced infertility to last the entire duration of nursing (2, 3, 4 years even). It's an important evolutionary trait, though frustrating in the modern day. If you ever feel down about it, take comfort in being the "fittest"
