I've been working on this as well! I try to make all of my purchases - especially if its going to be lying in full sight often- to beautiful on their own (or neutral and easily disappearing into the background).

I've modified the old adage to "Have nothing in your home which you do not know to be useful, AND believe to beautiful."

That's totally me! I purge at least twice a year, going through all closets, storage spaces, rooms and the garage, basement and attic. It drives my dh crazy, too.

I found a booster seat that is three heights in one as well as a step stool. The step stool fits on the bottom of the seat and raises and lowers it. It's pretty cool. It's a Safety 1st and its from 1998; that's what's stamped into the plastic. One of my favorites!
