i kind of gave up on LC until we got her sucking issues looked at. the feeding specialists at the childrens hospital are more worried about the reflux and aspirating than weak suck. we have the Speech abd occupational therapists coming friday so maybe they will have some ideas obviously she does need to learn to suck, right? i have a sns but we stopped using it when we switched over to the bottles to get her to gain weight. even with it dripping/pouring into her mouth so she didnt have to suck she was making weird clicking noises and screaming, but maybe that was the reflux???? idk

yeah but i think her palate is too high. 2 peds, 3 LCs(2 IBCLCs) and 2 feeding specialists. she can stick her tongue out REALLY far and there is no pulling in the center the tongue isnt the issue just the rest of her mouth i guess. like i said before the seizures she could suck a little so im thinking maybe she needs to relearn, im just not sure how:/

What kind of bottle are you using? I pumped for 3.5 years exclusively (and my daughter exclusively received my milk, there were no solids), it can absolutely be done! I used the medela finger feeder as I could gauge her ability to suck better. My daughter was never able to nurse (do to a suction injury post emergency csection birth). I would offer nursing very often personally. Nursing is just so special to me, I would never give up.

It's less about how far she can stick it out and more about how high she can raise it.

I would keep trying because I hate pumping and find tremendous value in comfort nursing.

This was my daughter until we found out she had a tongue and lip tie. After surgery she was able to latch on and nurse better. she still is going to weekly craniosacral therapy and everyday we work on suck training. I would try and find a LC thats is listed on the IBCLC website.

my daughter also has a very high palate, small mouth a tight jaw. If she doesnt have TT Id look into craniosacral.
