Cake Crafters

Some of you may remember I posted a thread about taking cake classes through Wilton.

Anyhow, I took my classes and had a lot of fun! I absolutely love it!

I know there are a few cake mamas on here, come chat!

I know the teacher has to "sell" the Wilton idea but does anyone have recipes for a good butter cream for piping? She gave me a recipe but it's all crisco and to me it tastes greasy and yuck. I know I'm making it appropriately it's just gross.

Also, to get 2" layers do you prefer 2" cake pans or 3"?

Hi! I'm cake mama too! Started 7 years ago with Wilton classes and was hooked- I actually even taught Wilton classes for awhile (I'm not a Wilton-only decorator though-lol)

For piping I still like the Wilton crisco recipe best but I add extra powdered sugar and water until it tastes less greasy. However I LOVE real butter in my buttercream- I use that for the whole cake and pipe decorations the crisco stuff.

As far as layer cakes- I like 3 layers of 2" or 2 layers of 3". 3" is my fave

Great idea to start this thread!!!

Re: Cake Crafters

eww I hated that greasy icing too! I just used all butter, no crisco. I haven't decorated in forever but I used to love it, those Wilton classes were great.
