Re: Fitted Sew-A-Long

What size rotary cutters do you guys use? I feel like mine is too big.

I tried one using the darling diapers template and a large prefold. Its useable but I just can't get the hang of a blind stitch elastic technique!! I watched several you tube tutorials and my elastic doesn't scrunch up as much as I want I even tried cutting it shorter. My phone isn't letting me attatch a picture. I am going to look up the other tutorial mentioned and try different materials.

Re: Fitted Sew-A-Long

I'll join, I have to make my son some fitteds. I currently have one cut out and the soaker made and Is tarted sewing it, but had no time this week to work on it. I used a prefold, 2 t- shirts, a old towel, and an old cotton shirt. Hopefully I can finish it this weekend.

I want to make some but it all depends on how DD naps! If she doesn't nap, it's hard to find time to sew

Is it okay for me to join in? I'm making diaper that I sell, not for me, so I'm not sure if that's wanted or not. If not I'm totally here as a cheerleader! I'm also slowly going to start working on some for a friend that is pregnant. I just don't have any little ones to sew diapers for!

Re: Fitted Sew-A-Long

I was working on putting leg elastic in my fitted tonight. I had to take out one whole leg, I pulled as tight as I could on the elastic and it didn't work so I changed my settings and width of the seam. I finally got it working and then my stupid bobbin ran out of thread. So I have take out all of that elastic ( I was half way done with the leg.) Hopefully I will get to work on it tomorrow again and finish it.

What do you guys use for your soaker materials and how many layers? I'm always afraid I'm putting too much or not enough in.

Re: Fitted Sew-A-Long

As the the number of layers you should use, it really depends on what type of materials you are using. You will need much more layers of flannel then you would of heavy bamboo fleece.

What kind of soaker material are you using?

I always use a rotary cutter to cut out my diapers, but I was a very serious quilter before starting making diapers. If you don't have a lot of experience with a rotary cutter I would be very careful cutting diapers out with them. They can be very dangerous, especially with diapers because you aren't using rulers and are trying to cut freehand. I use a 45mm rotary cutter.
