GMD prefolds or Imagine prefolds...which is better?

Ok, so I thought I had it figured out...then I ran into the Imagine bamboo/organic cotton prefolds. So, now I'm torn between the GMD (preemie or newborn) prefolds or the Imagine bamboo/organic cotton (x small) prefolds. I would love to hear from those that have used both...softness, sizing, absorbancy etc...pros and cons. I am looking for the least bulky, softest prefold for my probably close to 8lb baby due in Dec. I plan on using these tri folded in rumparooz/bummis newborn covers (if it matters). Thanks so much...

The imagine bamboo are super soft, softer than the GMD for sure. However the imagines are thinner (fewer layers) than the GMD, so DD actually outgrew the absorbency in a little over a week. She's a month now and we're still using the GMD orange edges on her, but the imagine oranges have been put away to be used as doublers later.

Oh wow! This changes everything! Thanks op for the helpful question!

Hmm...well, I like the sound of the softness, but absorbancy is an important factor, too. Well, maybe the GMD would be the better option long term.

I thought the bamboo Imagines were supposed to be super-absorbent? I suspect the PPs were talking about the cotton Imagines as I've heard that they are fewer layers than other brands.

I got both bamboo and cotton from imagine. The xsmall (oranges) are so small it's hard to tell if the bamboos are really that much more absorbent. I can tell that the gmds are, though. Maybe there's more of a difference with the larger sized bamboo prefolds?

My girl might just be a super heavy wetter, too. She's my first, so I have nothing to compare to.

Re: GMD prefolds or Imagine prefolds...which is better?

I haven't had the XS Imagine bamboos, but I had both the small Imagine bamboos and small GMD organic pfs, and no, the Imagines aren't just magical, super-absorbent pfs. I'd say they're slightly more absorbent than standard cotton, but not enough to offset the fewer layers in the XSs. Since my DD was out-peeing the orange edge GMDs at 3 weeks, I would never even bother with the XS Imagines (bamboo or cotton) unless I was expecting a preemie. The Ss are really quite small. I got them when DD was 10 lbs, and she had really almost outgrown them by then.

Imagine bamboo are awesome, I would never buy cotton over them!
