Pics of your canning storage???

I have canned a TON this year and I am still not done. I am not really happy with our current canning storage set up and I am looking for ideas. What do you use? Did you build something? Did you find something that worked perfectly? I remember my grandmother had a mud room on her farm and it had a whole wall of canning storage. If I remember right it was rather deep too (something I don't think I want). I have a basement and I am mixing my storage needs down there. Jars are not very tall though and most basement storage shelves have about 2 feet between shelves. So I am feeling less and less organized!

Thank you for the help!

We live in a verrrry old house and have pretty much a root cellar for a basement, so my DH had a stroke of genius and built shelves along the walls leading down to the basement. That way the jars stay cool, and we RARELY go down there so they stay undisturbed. The doorway to the cellar is right in my kitchen too, so its easily accessed! I love it.

Re: Pics of your canning storage???

I wish I had a root cellar! We live in a house that could have had one (built early 60's) but it doesn't. I have looked into what it would take to build one and I have a feeling that with NJ laws we would need an architect and an engineer and well, more money then I want to spend right now. I tried to talk DH into putting in a cold storage under the shed (just make a trap door in the floor) but he refuses.

Re: Pics of your canning storage???

We have an exterior root celler. VERY basic. Just a hole in the ground which hubby lined the "walls" of dirt with 2x12s then put a teeny tiny shed on top. Its literally a door that opens to a set of stairs, there is no "upper" storage room, was cheap and works well! (we keep potaoes for a full year in there - through -40c winters and +30c summers)

No pictures but if you shelves are 2 feet apart, you could stack your jars Just add a layer of cardboard between jars (or a piece of paneling) That worked really well for us!
