Do I NEED an Ergo infant insert?

I have an Ergo that I absolutely love, but this will be my first time using it with a newborn. Do I need to get an infant insert or can I just swaddle Baby?

I have the infant insert and never needed it. My 9 lb DD hated the padding above, and I could just roll 4 orange edge gmds together for the butt padding at the bottom. I think a small towel or two would do the trick too. I dunno about small babies though.

I used and liked the ergo insert "ok". Kind of a pain to get baby in and adjusted correctly, but once you get the hang of it it's not bad. I would lean more toward a stretchy wrap for carrying a newborn though

Thanks! I have a stretchy wrap too. Unless I can find one for dirt-cheap, I think I'll skip the infant insert.
