Is there a "market" for post-partum doulas?

I have my Master's in Social Work, but after having kids I don't feel like my heart is in that field anymore. I have thought about training to become a post partum doula. There are none in my city, but there are some that serve my city. I don't want to be a labor doula. Do you think i would be successful as a PP doula? I don't know anyone who has ever used one and I just don't know if it is something people are really looking for. I don't want to waste my time and money if there isn't a "market" for them. Thanks!

I would have considered hiring one, but there aren't any here (and only a handful of over-worked labor doulas). Are you looking for interest level from moms, or success information from people currently/recently working pas postpartum doulas?

After what I went through PP with DD, I would have loved the option of a PP doula. Next time I'm looking into it!

I think there is a market, but I think generally people that have a birth doula would use the same one for postpartum as well.

I would've loved one. I truly doubt I'll have another but if I did I'd definitely hire one!

Doulas here offer postpartum care as part of their package.

That said, many people don't have doulas or know much about them, but could benefit from postpartum follow up.

Re: Is there a "market" for post-partum doulas?

This is something that I want to do, as well, based on my experience.
I absolutely would have hired a PP doula if I had any idea they existed. We lived in rural Missouri at the time so I doubt there were even any close by. DH was a drill sergeant when DD was born and was home from about 11pm - 2:30am every day. He was zero help whatsoever (by no fault of his own, poor guy) except for the 2 or so middle of the night diaper changes that fit into that time in the early days. Closest family was a 9 hour drive away, and my close friends were childless and helped the best they could, but just didn't really "get it" if that makes any sense. It would have been freaking awesome to have a paid, experienced person around, just to listen to me whine, throw in some laundry, stock my fridge, and hold DD so I could shower! I will absolutely hire a PP doula next time around, even if DH is able to be around more

I think it would depend on what services you believe would be encompassed by that role. I personally think that the term doula (whether labor, pre/post-partum) is not well defined.

What about costs? The ones who have replied-what are you willing to pay for this service? I'm a trained doula but I don't use my certification because I have three kids and no reliable last minute daycare. I'd love to do pp work because it have more reliable structured hours; I've just always thought not a lot of people would be willing/able to pay what a pp doula costs.
