Yeah, that.

That's a good idea. We have one of the old chairs out in the shed. I can have him bring it up to the patio and tell him this is his chair. And, since we still have the Lazyboy, he can sit in that too.

I'm not going to be there, so I don't have to feel so awkward about hurting his feelings. He's a nice guy... his daughter dumped her five kids off at his house, and left the state...he's raising five grandkids all by himself. I don't know many men who would do that.

I would make dh either uninvite him or be the bad guy that tells him to stick to the broken lazyboy.

Since the friend seems so inconsiderate of your finances I wouldn't be terribly considerate of his feelings.

OYE. I'd tell dh go put all the chairs in the garage right now, go down and buy some heavy duty folding camp chairs to put around the table. If someone needs a chair, gotta take it from the table. We have a couple, they are rated 200lbs-400 I think.

Here's one similar to ours, it goes up to 400lbs. Don't buy from Cabela's obviously they are overpriced.

I agree with what others said about being upset that he didn't really acknowledge or care that he broke your things.this time he's up there, in a joking manner maybe your hubby can make some rules like u break, u pay...let the crew know that " wife wasn't too thrilled with replacing the patio set and she told me she doesn't want to do it again"
He needs to somehow get it in...either in a joking way or seriously.

Can your DH talk to him and explain it gently? And then suggest that perhaps you can buy whatever chair he uses at home just for him to use? Or maybe he can bring it from home?

I would pick up a chair or two that is made of solid wood for him.

I'd also fix the step because that is something that could go regardless of ones weight and a twisted//broken ankle SUCKS!

Re: WWYD... overweight friend and new furniture...

I think the pp's have given some really good advice, I don't have anything to add other than to reiterate warning him about the stairs. What a sucky situation. Personally I probably wouldn't have invited him back after he broke all that furniture and didn't offer to help replace it.
